Five Sentence Fiction – Flowers

What it’s all about: Five Sentence Fiction is about packing a powerful punch in a tiny fist. Each week I will post a one word inspiration, then anyone wishing to participate will write a five sentence story based on the prompt word.

The word does not have to appear in your five sentences, just use it for direction.

This week: FLOWERS

28 “And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, 29 yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. 30 And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?

Walking through the field of wildflowers, absently running her hand over the top of the blossoms, Alyssa ignored the tears flowing from her eyes and rolling down her cheeks, as she prayed and tried to come up with a plan of rescue. “O Lord,” she wept softly, “how will we survive now?” Earlier that morning, her boss of more than fifteen years had called  her to his office and informed her that as of the end of the day, she would no longer be employed.

“Lord,” she continued to cry, as she thought of her four children, who depended on her alone to provide and care for their needs, since their father and her husband of sixteen years, had passed away six months earlier,” how will I care for all of us?”

Suddenly, she felt a stirring within her soul, as the Lord began to speak to her, “Fear not, My beloved, for I am with you, and if I care so much about the flowers in this field, dressing them gloriously, and all of the birds, providing food for them, though they don’t store any food for themselves, because of My great love for you and your children, Child, don’t you think I will care all the more for you?” As the warmth of the Holy Spirit engulfed her, Alyssa began to smile with joy, because the Lord had heard her cries, and He had answered them. reminding her of His great love for her, and with Him by her side and within her, she had nothing to fear, for He would take care of her and her four beautiful children and provide for all of their needs!
